A&E Training Services provides comprehensive electrical safety training and technical training for your staff.  Our programs are designed to ensure that your employees meet the continuing need for safety and technical training to be able to understand existing and changing regulations, or to stay current with technical specifications.

Electrical Safety Training

This course is designed to introduce the employee, (Manager, Health and Safety Professional, Supervisor) to electrical safety in the work place.  This is a one day training program. For more information click the title above.

This one day program is designed to target the needs of the electrical worker in today’s work force.  Many of today’s injuries and accidents associated with the use of electricity are avoidable with the right safety and technical training.
This program consists of 8 lesson modules and videos;

Module No. 1Electricity and the Body

Upon completion of this module you will be able to;

  1. Explain the five primary hazards associated with electricity and its use.
  2. Explain the major factors which contribute to the effects of electricity on the human body.
  3. Explain the delayed effects associated with electricity on the human body.
  4. Correctly answer all the questions located at the end of this section.

Module No. 2 – Electrical Shock and Arc Flash Hazard Approach Boundaries

Upon completion of this module you will be able to;

  1. Discuss the two types of boundary limitations for electrically operated equipment.
  2. Define a qualified and unqualified person.
  3. Define limited approach boundary.
  4. Define restricted approach boundary.
  5. Define prohibited approach boundary.
  6. Define the flash protection boundary.
  7. Explain the purpose of the shock hazard analysis.
  8. Explain the purpose of the flash hazard analysis.
  9. Explain equipment labels and the content of the label
    a. Example of a generic label, and
    b. Examples of labels in use.
  10. Correctly answer all questions at the end of this section.

Module No. 3Induction

    Upon completion of the module you will be able to;

  1. Understand the effects of electrostatic induction
  2. Understand electromagnetic induction
  3. Testing procedures for induction
  4. Understand the basics of electrostatic discharge (ESD)
  5. Understand the effects of ESD
  6. Understand the principles of static electricity control6. Understand static control products

Module No. 4 –  Step and Touch Potential

    Upon completion of this module you will be able to;

  1. Discuss the effects of step and touch potentials
  2. Explain the effects of a ground fault
  3. Understand the best protection against step and touch potentials
  4. Explain how a worker may receive a shock from step and touch potentials
  5. Understand the types of ground mats and their uses

Module No. 5Energy Flow and Barriers

    Upon completion of this module you will be able to;

  1. Understand the insulation
  2. Discuss the safety basics
  3. Discuss barriers
  4. Understand the terms grounding and bonding

Module No. 6Electrical Safety Training for the Qualified Electrical Worker

    After the program, the participant will be able to explain the following:

  1. The importance of recognizing when you are qualified or not qualified to perform a task;
  2. The “limited approach boundary” for unqualified personnel and the “prohibited approach boundary” for  qualified workers;
  3. The significance of using voltage-related electrical gloves;
  4. Protective clothing and equipment that qualified workers must wear and use;
  5. The procedures for de-energizing equipment and verifying a zero energy state.

Module No. 7Corded Electrical Equipment, Extension Cords, Grounded Fault Circuit Protectors, Circuit Protection Devices

Upon completion of this module you will be able to;

  1. Explain the hazards associated with the use of power tools.
  2. Explain the care and proper use of the power tools.
  3. Explain the proper selection of extension cords and Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI).
  4. Explain the safe use of extension cords.
  5. Explain the purpose of a circuit protection device.
  6. Correctly answer all the questions located at the end of this section.

Module No. 8Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

    Upon completion of this module you will be able to;

  1. Recognize when PPE is required.
  2. Explain what types of PPE are necessary under certain circumstances.
  3. Explain the limitations of PPE.
  4. Discuss the proper care and maintenance of PPE.
